Tailgate Assists

Provide Smooth Tailgate Operation

Most people don't realize just how heavy the tailgate of a truck is until they actually attempt to open it with one hand. Sometimes the entire tailgate can actually come slamming down the instant it is released, especially if you're not prepared to bear its weight. Normally, this is something you'll get used to, however, that constant slamming that happens from time to time could end up damaging the tailgate. That is why tailgate assists were first invented.

If you've ever had the heavy steel tailgate slip out of your hands and come crashing down, then you'll definitely appreciate this accessory. If you've dropped a package you were carrying because of the sudden weight of the tailgate when you released it, you'll appreciate it even more! Using gas struts, these tailgate assists bear the weight of the tailgate and ensure that it lowers itself gently when opened.

One area that differs depending on the type of a tailgate assist is whether or not it provides any help in lifting the tailgate. Strictly speaking, most tailgate assists do not help bear the weight of the tailgate when it is being lifted, but there are some that do and they are often called 'tailgate lift assists' instead. Needless to say, with the majority of the weight of the tailgate being borne by a gas strut, it is a lot easier to close the tailgate – especially for those who do not have a lot of physical strength to begin with. Even if you have no issues closing your tailgate personally, what if your elderly parents were to need to do so?

We aim to provide our customers with the finest Tailgate Assists the industry can offer, which is why we accept no compromise when it comes to the quality. Created by the most reputable names in the industry, such as Dee Zee the Tailgate Assists we've gathered for you feature precise design and everlasting durability.

Assuming you have a backup camera, tailgate assists could actually help to avoid any damage to it. The biggest problem truck owners have with their backup cameras is that when the tailgate slams open too often, it may jostle the camera and can cause it to malfunction. With a tailgate assist ensuring that your tailgate swings open slowly, smoothly and gradually, no such issues should arise. The same applies to other truck or tailgate accessories that could be damaged by the forceful impact of the tailgate slamming open too.

When it comes to installation, tailgate assists don't require anything special and should take ten or twenty minutes to set up. In most applications, you won't need to drill any holes and the gas strut will normally work in conjunction with the existing support cables. Most tailgate assists only contain a single gas strut, but that is normally more than sufficient to take on the weight of the tailgate and should last for several years. Of course, it would help to check that the tailgate assist is designed for the make and model of your truck beforehand.

Love It! 30 Min Install in Your Garage!

It has the appearance of a car/truck specialty store added this equipment. Starting with the very 1st install step maybe a bit tricky because you insert a set-screw "housing" then you tighten it about 8-9 turns with an allen wrench, then you remove the "housing" but that illustration is NOT illustrated on the directions (it's just mentioned). Next, everything else is a breeze. The shock just snaps into place by you pushing onto the new mounts you instal.
