    Subaru Separates WRX from Impreza

Subaru thinks of separating the WRX from the Impreza for the first time in 20 years. The latest Impreza will be available on the market this fall and is planned to be higher volume model compared to the previous models.

“Apart from a few nuts and bolts, every part on the WRX will be unique. Even the engine and body. Obviously the WRX’s platform will be inherited from the new Impreza, but it will be radically modified and significantly shortened.”

According to Subaru president Ikuo Mori, under the hood the next generation WRX may have a 1.6-liter four-cylinder boxer engine, delivering 270 horsepower. Subaru Impreza will be a subcompact vehicle that would wear extra-wide tires. The automaker is thinking to make the sport car's debut on race competitions, like the Word Rally Championship, to return the car back to its roots. The next-gen WRX will be presented in 2014.
