The Saturn Sky was shown for the first time in 2005 at the North American International Auto Show, the production version was released one year later. The Sky had 18” wheels and was equipped with a 2.4L 177hp engine. In 2006 there was introduced a newer version of Saturn Sky – Red Line model. It was a high-performance model equipped with a 4-cylinder turbocharged 260hp engine. For both editions Saturn Sky and Sky Red Line two types of transmissions were available (5-speed manual/automatic). The Saturn vehicles, just like Saturn parts are no longer produced.

The 2008 Sky editions got more standard equipment, air conditioning, cruise control, and power window locks. Safety systems included ABS, an antiskid system, and traction control. There were several innovations applied to Saturn Sky parts, such as power driver's seat height adjuster, and leather covered steering wheel. Both models Sky base and Sky Red Line were equipped with the same types of engines as the previous model year editions.

The new 2009 base Saturn Sky was equipped with 2.4L 173hp engine, Red Line Edition had a turbocharged 2.0L 260hp unit. And again, two types of transmissions (5 speed manual/automatic) were available for both editions. Both models had air conditioning, cruise control and power windows/locks included into the standard package. Optional Sky configurations included LS7 engine, large brakes and turbo-charged versions exceeding 750hp.
