- Gooseneck hitches are the preferred hitch on horse trailers
- Gooseneck trailers are also becoming popular on RVs
- Concentrates load over rear axle
- Improves resistance to sidewind wander
- More stable high-speed towing
- Easy hookup
Gooseneck hitches are the favorite mode of trailering for horse trailers, but an increasing number of RV owners have embraced the gooseneck hitch for a number of reasons. With the connection between the trailer and truck centered over the rear axle, the trailer has far less propensity to steer the truck over poor roads or on windy days, reducing driver fatigue. One of the major factors that influences trailer stability is the proportion of the trailer's weight that sits on the tongue. Conventional-hitch trailers should have between 10-15% of their weight on the hitch ball, but gooseneck hitches should be carrying 20-25% of the load, substantially more. With a drop-in or hinged ball, it's easy to regain your pickup's bed for toting ordinary cargo without the hitch getting in the way.460.62 852.14
