The Plymouth Savoy appeared on the automotive arena in 1951. It was originally manufactured as the Concord's sub-model as well as a prime version of the favored Suburban wagon, followed in 1954-1961 by a series of full-sized models. The model was named after the Savoy Hotel, a luxurious hotel in London. The Savoy was initially available in a 2-door Club coupe and a 2- or 4-door sedan with a 3.6 L engine, but the fifth generation model was offered with a 6.3 L engine and 3-speed manual or automatic transmission. The production was discontinued in 1964 everywhere except Canada, where the Savoy was manufactured until 1965. It was substituted by the Fury I in the U.S. and the Fury II and III in Canada.
