Performance Turbochargers & Superchargers

Add-on Turbos and Superchargers

More air and fuel in the combustion chambers means a more forceful explosion driving the pistons, resulting in more power. Actually making this power is more complicated. Although you’ll gain power with a free flowing air intake system, you’re still limited by the amount of air that atmospheric pressure can push into the cylinders. To make real tire shredding horsepower, you need to force more air into the engine using a turbocharger or supercharger from CARiD.

Automotive Turbochargers

To increase horsepower, a turbocharger can be plumbed into the exhaust and air intake system. It contains a turbine wheel and a compressor impeller connected by a shaft. The exhaust gas spins the turbine wheel, also turning the compressor impeller. The compressor impeller compresses the intake air, increasing the mass of air entering the cylinders and “boosting” manifold pressure.

Unlike a turbocharger, a supercharger is driven directly by the engine. There are positive displacement and centrifugal superchargers, the difference being how the intake air is compressed. In a positive displacement supercharger, 2 lobes or screws compress the intake air, whereas an impeller is used to compress the air in a centrifugal supercharger. Just like a turbocharger, the massive increase in airflow, coupled with the added fuel that can now be burned, results in a serious horsepower increase, the kind that can’t be realized with any other type of engine modification.

Performance Turbochargers & Superchargers Reviews

2005 Subaru WRX | Posted by Matthew | (Kingsland, GA)

The hose kit itself is great, quality is very nice and they look really good. The problem I had was with the 90 degree hose that goes on the bottom of the coolant reservoir for the turbo, it was way too small to fit tried o force it but it cracked the inner lining so I ended up using the original hose for that. All the others were perfect, some were a bit long but I didn't have to trim any of them. I wouldn't purchase this kit again I would go for the samco kit instead.
