Stacks get your diesel exhaust fumes up, up and away, far from your face. A lot of drag strips and sled-towing sanctioning bodies require stacks, because normal bumper-level exhaust systems spew so much smoke it interferes with the timing lights. A stack-style exhaust system presents the least backpressure to exhaust flow, allowing you to modify the rest of your engine with an eye towards making big power.
