The Lincoln MKS is a full-size luxury sedan that premiered for the 2009 model year. It is constructed off of Ford's D3 platform along with the Ford Taurus and Mercury Sable. However, aside from the powertrains, the MKS shares little else with those two models. When it debuted, the Lincoln MKS was outfitted with both front and all-wheel drive. A 3.7L V6 engine could be found under the hood, capable of approximately 273 horsepower and 270 pounds-per-feet of torque mated to a standard six-speed automatic transmission. As for the model's dimensions, the Lincoln MKS measured in with a wheelbase of 112.9 inches, a width of 75.9 inches, a height of 61.6 inches, and an overall length of 204.1 inches. Safety features at the car's launch included traction control, stability control, front-seat airbags, side-curtain airbags, antilock brakes, and brake assist.
Trim levels for the first year of the Lincoln MKS were simply broken down into Front-Wheel Drive (FWD) and All-Wheel Drive AWD). Both showcased such MKS parts, as 18"wheels, xenon HID headlights, cruise control, and heated power side-view mirrors. Standard on the inside of the MKS is leather upholstery as well as heated/ventilated power front-seats, heated rear seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, a titled power-memory steering wheel, an eight-speaker stereo system with a six-CD disc changer, and satellite radio. A year later, trim levels for the MKS were the FWD, AWD, and the new twin-turbocharged EcoBoost, which was equipped with all-wheel drive and a twin-turbocharged 3.5L V6 engine good that produces up to 355 horsepower and 350 pounds-per-foot of torque. The EcoBoost was a noteworthy addition by Ford due to the vehicle's ability to churn out more horsepower while remaining as fuel-efficient as the other two trims.
The FWD and AWD trims kept the same 3.7L configuration from the previous year. Once again, engines were mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. However, this time around the transmission was geared with new paddle shifters. Other standard Lincoln parts that were new for the 2010 model year were rain-sensor windshield wipers, adaptive xenon HID headlights, remote keyless entry/ignition, and a rear-power sunshade. Options for the MKS include a dual-pane sunroof, 19" wheels, 20" wheels, wood/aluminum trim, a touchscreen interface for navigation (with Sirius Travel Link), a backup cameral, adaptive cruise control, and a premium THX stereo system. Most of these options come are made available in either the Technology or Ultimate Package. The EcoBoost Package offers 20" chrome wheels, lighted sills, and a leather steering wheel.

The sales of Lincoln sedans have been slipping down, this year decrease reached 8 percent mark. The automaker decided to redesign MKS models. The new vehicle will debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November. The technological overhaul will feature the redesign. Lincoln plans to introduce noise-canceling technology into the new MKS's. The most interesting innovation will be the computer-adjustable steering and suspension.
Global product chief Derrick Kuzak said, Seven new Lincolns are on the way over the next few years. Lincoln will be taking pointers from the success of its MKZ Hybrid, introduced late last year, which experienced tremendous success because this car represented the first-ever entry-level luxury hybrid.
