Yes, you can use it with a tinted window or windshield. Despite being able to use the camera with a tinted window, the limited amount of light coming through the tinting will have a big impact on the image quality (lighter or darker depending on the amount of sunlight.)
Images recorded will be much darker when recording through a darker tint.
If you do have a dark tinting on the area in which you’ve installed your camera, it is recommended that you remove a small portion of the tint in front of the lens of the Black Box Unit.
There is no need to download any folders for the SD memory card upon formatting. After formatting your SD memory card, you simply need to insert the memory card into the dedicated slot on the Black Box and turn it on as you normally would. The folders such as setup, event, and etc. will be automatically generated upon doing so.
The automatic reboot is an integrated feature within the system. In many cases this occurs because the camera has been on for quite a long time during which the engine was turned off. Constant motion in front of the camera during parking mode will need the camera to continue recording and as such continue to utilize the car battery. When the battery voltage has dropped below a certain level, specifically 11.8V, the unit will automatically cut power to the camera in order to preserve the life of the car battery.
In the case that the car battery level is low, the power to the camera will also be cut. In these cases the system will reboot upon startup.
Another reason for the system to shut down can be in critically low or high temperatures. Due to the extreme temperatures, the car battery can be extremely hot or extremely cold, resulting in situations where the power output is not optimal. In those cases the system will restrict all power to the camera in order to preserve the car battery.
In many cases, the SD memory card reader may be malfunction or the tab on the SD memory card may be set to be locked. In such cases, the card itself cannot and will not be read.
In the case where you are directly inserting the card into a computer, there may be a compatibility issue with the SD memory card and the computer you are using. iTronics recommend that you attempt connecting the card with another computer to see if such a problem still exists.
Just like car tires, the SD memory card life wears down after extended use. They may reach the end point of their lifespan upon extended use and will no longer be read or picked up by a computer or reader.
Please consult the manual that came with your memory card for more information on cases in which memory cards are not read by a computer.
Yes, you definitely can for certain models of Black Box cameras. In the case of the ITB-100HD, the systems come with an AV output port that will support AV cable use to connect compatible navigation systems. Please make sure to check the gender of the necessary output cables as such may be different per Black Box system and navigation system.
The above method is mainly for real-time viewing. In the case of playback from the memory card, you would need to insert the SD card into the navigation system. Please make sure that your navigation has compatible CODEDs necessary for play back as these videos are recorded using an H.264 codec for video compression.
For compression codec support, please contact your navigation system manufacturer. There may be cases in which our compression codec is not supported, so please be advised that not all navigation systems will allow playback.
iTronics recommend to use iPass Black series with SDHC memory card that has a Class 10 above.
However, available SDHC memory cards on retail market might change their internal controller and memory due to various reasons even the brand name is same. For example, the SDHC memory card that purchased on spring might not show any compatibility issue, but it might show problems on the SDHC memory card that manufactured on winter.
We highly recommend to purchase genuine SDHC memory card that manufactured by iTronics for maximum compatibility.
