The Freightliner FL-Series trucks are rated as 5-8 class trucks, the range includes medium-duty FL 50, FL 60, FL 70 models and heavy-duty FL 80, FL 106, and FL 112 models. Since 1995 the heavy-duty Freightliner FL 112 model was offered in tandem axle configuration (4x2 and 6x4 axles). The FL 112 model came with Cummins M11 Plus I6 engine developing 280-370 hp. The engine was paired with the Eaton 18-speed transmission. The FL 112 model was steel cab dual drive truck used for the off-road construction. The FL 106 model was powered by 8.3L Cummins I6 diesel engine developing 275 hp. This model came with 249 inch wheelbase and in a tandem axle configuration. The Freightliner FL 106 was used as a cement mixing car and dump truck.

The medium-duty Class 5 Freightliner FL 50 came with a 5.9L Cummins 24-Valve diesel with the power output ranging from 175 hp to 250 hp. The Eaton's Fuller 4205 manual transmission came standard. The 7.2 L Caterpillar in-line 6 cylinder engine developing 175-300 hp came as an option. As the FL 50 came with a range of wheelbase options, it was used for different purposes from retail delivery to emergency response operations. In 2001 the FL 60 came with a 7.2 L Caterpillar in-line 6-cylinder diesel with the power output ranging from 160 hp to 300 hp, and with the choice of manual and automatic transmissions produced by Eaton Fuller, Allison, and Mercedes-Benz. The hydrolic disc brakes were included into the list of standard Freightliner FL-Series parts, while air brakes were optional parts. The FL 60 empty weight was 25,500 lb. In 1997 Freightliner offered the FL 70, which was one of the company's semi-trailer trucks. Like all Freightliner FL-Series models, the FL 70 was available with diesel engines produced by Caterpillar and Cummins with the power ranging from 160 hp to 430 hp. Its gross weight was up to 35, 000 lbs, rear axle could tow up to 23,000 lbs. The FL 70 was used in situations that required powerful engine or heavier axle loadings.
