The Ford Tempo was Ford’s first subcompact car marketed from 1984 to 1994. The first-generation Ford Tempo, manufactured between 1984 and 1987, was built in a four-door sedan body configuration and used a 2.3 L I4 gasoline engine as a standard and a 2.0 L I4 diesel unit as an option. A four-speed automatic transmission was a standard one, a three-speed automatic featuring a floor-mounted gear lever was optional. The second-generation Tempo was a two-door coupe that used 2.4 L I4 and 3.0 L V6 gasoline engines mated to five-speed manual and three-speed automatic transmissions.
