Guides & Articles
Grille guards belong to those few accessories intended to add instant front-end safety and give outstanding looks to light trucks and SUVs. When properly installed, the grille guard provides a tough shield against everyday hazards, including rocks and whatever else obstacles, not to mention other vehicles on the road!
Properly designed, properly built and properly mounted grille guards offer very good protection for a vehicle front. The protective value of small chrome bars protruding under the bumper is debatable, but there is no denying that they look good and that they provide an excellent mount for auxiliary lights.

2014 Ford Escape
| Posted by | (Chaffee, NY)

The installation on the 2014 Ford Escape requires removing the front wheels, wheel well liners and bottom engine cover. Once these are out of the way you can gain access to the factory frame bolts that need to be removed (4) and replaced with supplied hardware. These would not easily come out as the flange nuts appear to be factory dimpled to prevent them from ever backing out from vibration and we had to grind these off. Once that is done the bar mounts easily. However to reattach the bottom engine cover it has to be cut in two places to allow the brackets to come threw. The bracket are now the lowest part of the car on the bottom by 3" so ground clearance is slightly compromised. In the end the bar does look great but is really just ornamental as it attaches with two bolts directly into the open end of the tube and any pushing or contact would easily bend it back into the grill. The bar also has two rubber plugs in the horizontal cross bar that could be removed to install fog lights if you wanted to.
