If you desire a modest brake improvement at speeds or higher heat and load on any car this kit will be your best choice. High efficiency EBC brake pads built with aramid fiber, fully shimmed, slotted and chamfered and featuring the EBC patented Brake-in coating for fast pad seating after install. Matched with fine slot sport vented rotors for cooler brakes and lifetime perfect flat and parallel pad wear finished with “thermic black” anti rust coating.
All EBC rotors including USR Slotted Rotors are British made and are precision machined in the UK. Rotors are made from high quality grey iron to exacting standards and undergo extensive testing and rigorous quality control. Slotted rotors can significantly improve brake performance and longevity when used with a matching high friction brake pad set. Having sold hundreds of thousands of brake kits EBC Brakes feel confident their approach is as perfect as it gets.
EBC is of the opinion that slotted rotors have been “Over sold” by certain marketplace participants and their findings are that a slotted rotor will only give benefits if used with a pad that compensates for its reduced surface area.
Manufactured using premium disc blanks mentioned above, the narrower multi slot design of the Ultimax sport rotor and the progressive angle at which the slots are machined creates a quiet running sport rotor that still has benefits of removing gas, dirt, water and debris and maintaining parallel pad wear.
EBC have always been honest enough to say that the biggest advantage of slotted rotors is the fact that they promote flat and parallel pad wear rather than allowing ridges to develop on pads and rotors which is typical of “drilled only” sport rotors. By preventing these ridges brakes stay more consistent throughout pad and rotor wear life (simple physics!).
The benefits of degassing and promoting flat and smooth pad wear are a clear plus in favour of sport rotors but the trick is to opt for a matched set of brakes and not to just expect a slotted rotor to improve braking on its own. . When used with higher friction EBC Redstuff, Greenstuff or Yellowstuff brake pads these rotors will deliver better brakes.
The different slot pattern of the EBC USR Series has made this range a popular choice for drivers who desire improved sport braking with minimal air noise from the slots. The finer slot pattern is what makes these sport rotors more silent in operation whilst still offering pad degassing and removing dirt dust water and debris from the braking area.
One in seven cars suffers geometry problems during its life that can affect steering and cause brake vibration. These are not a product quality issue. These can happen by simply nudging a kerb or by driving over a pothole. EBC is not alone in recognising this problem but is the only brake supplier on the planet prepared to offer diagnosis and a solution.
These cause what is known as DTY. The videos below show how to correct for brake vibration caused by DTY (disc thickness variation). DTY develops in a car after 3000-4000 miles caused by runout built in to the car or due to incorrect alignment of the rotors at install. This is quite a common fault on modern cars and many cars require this at every rotor change. Drivers also confuse hub distortion with a rotor quality issue but in 99% of cases the DTY is a car problem, not a rotor quality problem. You can replace the rotors as many times as you like trying to solve vibration and the problem will only go away for a few thousand miles and then return. This means you have purchased new rotors in good faith but the problem is not solved and will not go away permanently until you perform this procedure. After this skimming of the rotor surface you will have smooth brakes , more effective brakes and zero vibration. It is even a very worthwhile practice when fitting new rotors to have all four rotors skimmed into perfect alignment on your car with this inexpensive procedure. Rotor distortion due to DTY is very common, in fact one in seven cars has a steering geometry problem either when it is built new or after nudging a kerb or hitting a large pothole. Uneducated people still say “my rotors are warped”. Well the engineering facts are rotors do not warp, they are made of cast iron, they are very tough and can be run to red heat and cooled time after time and they will not distort, we do this day in day out on our Dynos in the EBC lab. Thats why the whole world still uses cast iron as a vehicle brake rotor material, there has never been anything to beat it and probably never will be. Pro cut machines work on both plain rotors and even better on slotted and drilled rotors of all types.
Pro cut are a USA based multi national and extremely professional corporation. Their machines are used and approved by many major car manufacturers and used all over the world to do exactly what they do best, correct for rotor mis-alignment no matter how it arises on a car. You cannot achieve this with any other device.
Since EBC Brakes launched its sport range in 1997 EBC Greenstuff™ brake pads have sold well over four million sets of performance automotive brakes all over the world and have become the number one selling EBC sport pad.
Greenstuff™ has once again pushed the performance barriers of organic friction materials. The latest version of Greenstuff™ brake pads are a deliberately softer compound to improve pedal feel on lighter cars at lower speeds. This resulted in a medium dust material with good lifetime and minimal rotor wear. Tests at the UK MIRA Motor Vehicle Research Institute have shown a version of Greenstuff™ to stop a car almost 20 feet quicker than original parts on a popular hot hatch braking from 60 MPH offering a huge 15% brake improvement. It is essential to note that EBC offer three ranges of Greenstuff™ brake pads, engineered for each application.
EBC Greenstuff™ has a high initial brake effect and gives drivers confidence from first application of the brake pedal. There is no such thing as a no dust pad. The very nature of how a brake works requires that some dust be generated to avoid rotor vibration (shimmying). The EBC pad creates less dust and dust is more easily washed off than most. All pads create more dust as they are bedding in especially if rotors are worn. Nominal friction coefficient 0.55. For heavier faster cars we strongly recommend Redstuff which does offer much less dust.
