Built to ensure optimum usage of the tight urban space, the Chevy Spark is a four-door hatchback subcompact based on the Chevrolet Beat concept, which was introduced at the 2007 New York Auto Show. The architecture of the concept was engineered by GM Daewoo Automotive Technologies in South Korea, where the production version and some of the crucial Spark parts were developed as well. While the original Spark is already on sale in Europe, Australia, and South America, the US-spec Spark is scheduled to hit the North American market in the summer 2012. For the 2013 model year, General Motors also plans to expand the lineup with a battery-powered all-electric Spark EV.

The Spark, which battles with such subcompacts as the Smart ForTwo, Scion iQ, and Fiat 500, is claimed to be the smallest car ever sold with the bowtie badge in the USA. The car is 144.7 inches long and 62.9 inches wide, meaning it is somewhat longer yet a bit narrower than both the Scion iQ and the Fiat 500. In the US and Canada, the Chevy Spark will be powered by a 1.2-liter inline-four engine with dual variable valve timing. The engine blends together competitive performance with advanced technologies and parts, including dual continuous variable cam phasing, electronically controlled thermostat and low-friction engine oil. A 5-speed manual transmission comes standard, while a four-speed automatic is included in the list of the optional Chevy Spark parts. Delivering 85 hp and 82 lb-ft of torque, the subcompact is rated at 30 mpg in the city and 40 mpg on the highway. To make the trip as safe as possible, the Spark comes with the ten standard airbags, StabiliTrak Stability Control System, driver and front passenger Dual Safety Belt Pretensioners, OnStar telematics system, ABS, and Traction Control.

Updated for the United States and Canadian consumers, the tiniest Chevy has four doors, with the rear door handles integrated into the C-pillar area to create an illusion of a 2-door configuration. The Chevy Spark features an elegant exterior design, which grabs attention with such parts and accessories as the 15'' alloy wheels, a distinctive and massive two-section grille, giant bug-eyed headlights, large circular brake lights, and a miniature roof spoiler. In the US, the subcompact will be offered in a range of traditional (Silver Ice Metallic, Denim, Salsa and Summit White) and so called 'nail polish' colors ( Lemonade, Techno Pink and Jalapeno), which are claimed to match the mood and shoes of the driver. Being tall for it's length, the Spark offers roomy interior with 86.3 cubic-feet for four occupants, and 11.4 cubic-feet behind the rear seats. Its motorcycle-inspired gauge cluster comes with a huge analog speedometer adjacent to a rectangular digital screen. The interior equipment and accessories vary depending on the trim level. Both the 1LT and 2LT are offered with MyLink infotainment system with a 7-inch color touch screen, Bluetooth compatibility, power windows, air conditioning, at the same time the range-topping 2LT comes with SiriusXM satellite radio, leather-wrapped steering wheel, and heated leatherette seats.
