Universal In-Dash Tachometer by Auto Meter®. Keep your engine in the powerband for optimal performance and keep engine rotation within safe limits with an Auto Meter In-Dash Tachometer. Available in both analog and digital format, an Auto Meter tach will accurately display crankshaft Revolutions Per Minute (RPM), so you can engage the throttle and shifter for best vehicle speed while not exceeding the safe engine speed. The Designer Black tachometer comes in a 3 1/8” housing with a 0-7000 RPM analog dial and a 5” housing with a 0-8000 RPM analog dial, while the Z-Series tachometer comes in a 2 1/16” housing and 0-5000 RPM and 0-8000 RPM dials. The Sport Comp digital tach features Auto Meter’s E-Z View Display system for optimal visibility, with a 0-10,000 RPM range, shift light and peak memory recall, and compatibility with 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, and 10 cylinder engines and most ignition systems.

Gasoline engines typically make the best power within a narrow range of a few thousand RPM. To make the best time on the race track, or for spirited high-performance driving, the throttle and gearing must be manipulated by the driver via the gas pedal and shift lever to keep the engine within this powerband. Engines also have a peak operating rotation speed, known as the “red line”, and operation above this rate can cause serious and expensive engine damage when overstressed components fail. If you’re driving by “seat of the pants” feel and the sound of the engine, you’re really only guessing at engine RPM; for the best performance and safest engine operation you need the accuracy of an Auto Meter In-Dash Tachometer.
For the ultimate analog tach you can’t go wrong with a Designer Black instrument, with its vintage high-performance design, traditional black dial, domed lens, and perimeter incandescent lighting. Choose from a 0-7000 RPM range display surrounded by a black nickel bezel in a 3 18” gauge housing, or a 0-8000 RPM range display surrounded by a chrome bezel in a 5” gauge housing. If you’re in need of a smaller size gauge, then consider the Z-Series 2 1/16” meter. Its high-performance movement and understated good looks make this gauge a perfect choice for low-key instrumentation. It features a black dial with contrasting orange pointer, perimeter incandescent lighting, and black bezel, and comes with a 0-5000 RPM or 0-8000 RPM display. These gauges operate on most 4, 6, and 8-cylinder engines.
Auto Meter digital tachs are like nothing else on the market, with their exclusive E-Z View Display System that maximizes readability and minimizes distracting high-speed digit changes. The Super Comp’s bright red, LED lit microprocessor controlled 0-10,000 RPM display features a black face with black bezel and perimeter incandescent lighting, and includes a user adjustable shift light and peak memory recall. It operates on most 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, and 10-cylinder engines.
These tachometers are compatible with points, electronic ignition, and most 12V high-performance racing ignitions. Each comes with instructions and it’s backed by a limited 1-year warranty.
