The gas tank fuel level sender is nothing more than a variable resistor that varies resistance to ground according to the level of the float in the fuel tank. The resistance range of each sender is not uniform and varies between manufacturers and model years. But if you want to add a custom fuel gauge to your ride, don’t despair, because regardless of the sender in your fuel tank, Auto Meter has a custom gauge that will work.
An extensive selection of electric analog 90 degree short sweep gauges are available calibrated to work on most Chrysler, Ford, and GM vehicles, including mid 1960s-mid 1990s GM vehicles with 0-90 Ohm senders, older GM vehicles with 0-30 Ohm senders, older Ford/Chrysler vehicles with 73-10 Ohm senders, and newer Ford vehicles with 16-158 Ohm senders. There are also gauges calibrated to work with a universal aftermarket 240-33 Ohm sender. If the sender on your ride doesn’t fall within one of these ranges Auto Meter makes electric analog 270 degree full sweep programmable gauges that can be custom calibrated to accurately display the output from any fuel level sender with an output between 0 and 280 Ohms. All of these gauges are available in a broad range of styles, colors, bezel finishes, and lighting, so you can get the exact design and style you want and match your other Auto meter gauges.
