Audi Releases the 2013 R8 Exclusive Selection Edition

Especially for the US market, Audi introduced 50 exclusive Audi R8 models, 30 of which will be available with a 5.2-liter FSI V10 producing 525 hp and 391 lb-ft of torque, while other 20 models will be offered with a 4.2-liter FSI V8 engine delivering 430 hp and 316 lb-ft of torque. Having much in common, both these R8 Coupes can be paired with an optional automatic R tronic or standard six-speed manual transmission. Audi quattro all-wheel drive system and the manufacturer's ultra lightweight technology are common features for both vehicles as well.

For the R8 Exclusive Selection Edition, Audi has applied new exterior paint: a Daytona Gray matte for the R8 V8 and an Ibis White for the R8 V10. A Daytona Gray exterior was completed with 19'', five-spoke wheels with red brake calipers, carbon fiber splitter and diffuser, black exhaust finishers, GT tail lamps, and black grille surround. Inside the vehicle, an exclusive leather package with contrast stitching and some Crimson Red elements can be found. Except the glimmering Ibis White exterior, the R8 V10 comes with few Brilliant Black features, such as the exterior mirrors, rear license plate surround, sideblade, 19” e-tron wheels, and GT tail lamps. On the inside, there is a carbon fiber driver’s cockpit with Alabaster White contrast stitching. A contoured steering wheel and exclusive leather Navigation surround are offered for both models to ensure a sportier grip.

These Audi R8 special edition models serve as a sort of swan song for the 2012 Audi R8.

When the roof of the vehicle is taken off, as a rule there is a list of changes made in the interior. Audi R8 Spyder 5.2 V-10 FSI Quattro is an exception in this rule. The biggest problem is to afford the estimated $165,000 base price when the car arrives in late fall.

Convertible preserved the R8’s styling. Though the windshield was slightly lowered and the total height was dropped 0.3 inch. The 5.2-liter V-10 powertrain remained unchanged. The engine produces 525 hp and 391 lb-ft of torque. Audi said, that the lost weight adds about 0.2 second to the 0-to-60 acceleration performance. R8 5.2 convertible acceleration test results showed a 0-to-60-mph time of about 3.7 seconds. The top speed is 195 mph.

When you drive the R8 Spyder it feels like you are driving the coupe version. The steering is light and easy, Quattro all-wheel drive helps to keep the handling predictable increasing driver's confidence. By now the production of R8 Spyders for the US market is limited to 1000 cars annually, split about 50/50 between the V-8 and V-10 versions.

Top Speed Names Audi R8 2010 Coupe of the Year

Top Speed, a respected automotive online magazine, has released its list of 2010 vehicle award winners. In the category ‘Coupe of the Year’ the top award was handed to the Audi R8 GT.

According to Editorial, the Audi R8 has always appealed to them and with a few adjustments made in the 2011 model year (powered by a 5.2 FSI V10 to deliver a total of 560-hp and 398.28 lb-ft), it became their top choice in the segment. A sprint from 0 to 60 mph in 3.6 seconds and a top speed of 198.8 mph - all this, along with the inborn beauty, made the Audi R8 GT Top Speed’s peek for Coupe of the Year.

Besides the R8 GT, one more Audi model made the Top 5 list of best coupes - the Audi RS5 has occupied the fifth place. Other cars nominated for this award were the Chevrolet Camaro that ended at the fourth place, the Cadillac CTS-V Coupe, that finished third and the Ford Shelby GT500 that became a silver winner.
