Debuting for the 2009 model year, the Audi Q5 is a smoothly styled compact crossover SUV. It first premiered at the 2008 Beijing Auto Show and soon after was released throughout Europe before making its first appearance in North America in early 2009. The Audi Q5 is constructed on the MLP platform (Modular Longitudinal Platform), which is intended for the design of front-engine vehicles capable of both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive. Although available in only one trim, the Q5 offers three different equipment packages for drivers to select from.

Currently, there is only one engine offered for the Audi Q5, a 3.2L V6 good for approximately 270 horsepower and 243 pounds-per-foot of torque. It is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission, and like all contemporary Audi models, uses the brand's vaunted Quattro all-wheel drive system. The wheelbase measures 110.6 inches with the overall length set at 182.3 inches. The model is also 74 inches wide and 65 inches high. This makes for a maximum cargo capacity of 67 cubic feet, which is considered negligible. However, since it is slotted to compete with other compact luxury crossovers, cargo space is not normally seen as an extremely important factor.

The model rolls on alloy wheels and features such standard Audi Q5 parts as power front seats and tri-zone climate control. Higher-end options include a power lift gate, Audi’s Multi Media Interface system with GPS navigation, and the Audi Drive Select system. Although it has only been on the road for a short time, the sleek wagon-like image of the Q5 has gone a long way.
