The Acura CL debuted in 1997 as a midsize luxury car, replacing the popular Legend coupe. It is also the first Acura model to be assembled in the US, at the Honda plant in Marysville, Ohio. For its first year, the CL was offered with two engine options, a 3.0L V6 good for 200 horsepower and 2.2L inline four-cylinder engine (145 HP) mated to a four-speed automatic transmission. However, the four-cylinder version of the model could also be had with a five-speed manual.
