The GMC Acadia was unveiled in 2006 and went on sale as a 2007 year model. Originally positioned as a full-size 7- or 8-seater crossover SUV, the Acadia shared the GM Lambda platform with the Chevrolet Traverse and Buick Enclave. In 2016, the second-generation GMC Acadia was introduced to the public. Not only the Acadia received a full redesign, it was shifted to a different vehicle class. Compared to the previous generation, the 2017 GMC Acadia lost 7.2 inches in length and 700 pounds in curb weight, and thus is now considered to be a mid-size CUV. It is built on the same platform as the Cadillac XT5 and features a 112.5-inch wheelbase.

Depending on the seating configuration, the 2017 Acadia seats six or seven on three rows, except for the All Terrain model that gets rid of the third-row seats and can accommodate up to five passengers. Thanks to sliding second-row seats, it’s easy to distribute legroom between the second and third rows of seats. The 2017 GMC Acadia with its 13 cubic-feet cargo area doesn't really provide outstanding cargo capacity, especially when compared to the previous generation. However, the second- and third-row seats can be folded flat with no fuss, turning a family hauler into cargo transportation.

The 2017 GMC Acadia is available in six trim levels that differ in performance, quality of materials, features, and technologies. The base SL trim comes with a 193-horsepower 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine under the hood mated to a six-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive. The Acadia SL rolls on a set of 17-inch alloy wheels and features heated mirrors, cruise and climate control, Bluetooth connectivity, and smartphone integration. The SLE1 trim level adds LED DRLs, while the SLE2 trim upgrades middle-row seats to bucket ones with an optional split bench, adds 18-inch wheels and heated front seats. The SLT1 trim adds a set of amenities such as leather upholstery, power-adjustable front seats, and Bose audio system. The SLT2 and Acadia Denali include a trailering package and are powered by a 3.6-liter V6 engine that throws out 310 horsepower. The Denali also receives some exterior upgrades such as a revised grille and xenon headlights. All 2017 Acadias except for the base SL can be had with all-wheel drive.

The SLE1 and SLT1 trims can get an All Terrain package, which adds a set of 20-inch wheels, advanced all-wheel drive, downhill assist control, and some exterior refinements, and also reduces a number of seats to five. Despite the name, the All Terrain Acadia is only capable of light off-roading, so if you want to turn it into a real off-road monster, take a look at our selection of 2017 GMC Acadia parts and accessories.
