It's ideal for applying adhesion promoter prior to dashboard trim kit installation. 3M™ specially formulated this adhesion promoter for use on low surface energy plastics, which are used on many dashboards.

Installing a dashboard trim kit is a great way to enhance the appearance of your interior and add value to your car or truck. But you won't achieve satisfactory results unless the surface of the dash is properly prepared. It should be common knowledge by now, but worth repeating nonetheless, that the dash must be thoroughly cleaned to remove all traces of Armor All® or other petroleum products. Most dash kit manufacturers recommend that the dash be cleaned at least 3 times with a degreaser designed for the job.

The importance of the next step should not be underestimated. After cleaning, the surface must be primed with a surface promoter to ensure the 3M™ Acrylic Foam Tape adheres to the dash. Many dashboards today are constructed of plastics with low surface energy, which makes them very slippery. 3M™ Adhesion Promoter 4298 is specially formulated for such material. It chemically modifies the surface of the plastic and bonds with it, ensuring that the 3M™ tape will attach properly. The Professional Installation Adhesion Promoter Pen is the perfect delivery system for the adhesion promoter. It allows you to apply the promoter exactly where you want it, and only as much as is needed. When priming, 3M™ recommends that you only apply one even coat, since applying multiple coats could compromise the bond and thereby defeat the purpose.

NOTE: All of our dash kits include one-time use adhesion promoter sticks or pads. The BondPak Pen is just bigger and more comfortable to use on large kits or multiple dash kit installations.
