For 2010, the GMC Sierra received a number of improvements that mainly concern its mechanicals. The 4.8 L and 5.3 L V8 engines now use variable valve timing. The latter also received other upgrades like fuel saver mode intended to increase fuel efficiency - now the Sierra can deliver up to 22 mpg hwy (the XFE). A 6.0 L V8 engine was dropped. All V8 power plants can now work on E85 fuel. Stability control with rollover mitigation, seat-mounted side and side-curtain air bags are standard for the 2010 GMC Sierra. All models except for the base one also come with a USB port placed in the center console that allows you to play stored audio files via the truck’s audio system. Certain devices can also be charged via the port. The availability of the rear-view camera was expanded.

The 2010 GMC Sierra offers four engine options. The base one is a 4.3 L V6 capable of delivering 195 hp; V8 power is available in three configurations. The 4.8 L V8 can generate 302 hp, 5.3 L V8 provides 315 hp, while the 6.2 L V8 is good for 403 hp. The Sierra utilizes automatic transmissions only – the base engine and the smallest V8 are teamed with a 4-speed automatic and larger power plants are directed through a 6-speed one. The truck is capable of towing impressive 10,600 lb when properly equipped.

The 2010 Sierra is offered as the standard, extended or crew cab. Standard cabs can be fitted with 6-ft-6” and 8-ft beds and crew cabs come with 5-ft-8” beds only. Extended cab variants can be ordered with all three bed offerings. The base Work grade features a trip computer, tilt steering, split front bench, vinyl upholstery, OnStar, CD/MP3 audio player with satellite radio and auxiliary audio jack, and air conditioning on extended and crew cabs. The SL trim adds cruise control, keyless entry, lumbar support for the driver seat, and full power accessories. The SLE grade also comes with cloth seating, leather steering wheel, and auto-dimming rear-view mirror. The SLT adds upgraded materials, Bose audio system, full center console, leather upholstery, remote engine start, rain-sensing wipers, wood and metallic dash accents, and 12-way power front seats that can be heated. The top Denali grade offers a unique powertrain, special wheels, suspension tuning, heated steering wheel, and exterior styling improvements.
