Chevy Silverado 2009, Under-Bed Gooseneck Complete Kit by BulldogŪ. 5th wheel hitches are the favorite of professionals who tow, because their road manners are superior to conventional-hitch trailers. If you're traveling with a trailer on a daily basis, you'll appreciate how a 5th wheel handles.
- Superior performance in cross winds
- Easy hookup
- More tongue weight for better stability
- Concentrates trailer load directly over the rear axle
If you're going to be doing extensive towing with a large trailer, as opposed to taking it somewhere and leaving it for a while, there's no substitute for a 5th wheel. Sure, you can tune a conventional hitch up to tow pretty nicely, but those who tow for a living know that the sweetest-towing rigs, pound-for-pound and foot-for-foot are always 5th wheels. With the connection between the trailer and truck centered over the rear axle, the trailer has far less propensity to steer the truck over poor roads or on windy days, reducing driver fatigue. One of the major factors that influences trailer stability is the proportion of the trailer's weight that sits on the tongue. Conventional-hitch trailers should have 10-15% of their weight on the hitch ball, but 5th wheel hitches should be carrying 20-25% of the load, substantially more.
If you need to use your truck to carry cargo in the bed when you're not towing, consider a 5th wheel setup that is readily removable, permitting unrestricted use of the bed. If you're towing with a short-bed pickup, there's a problem: you can't turn any sharper without the trailer hitting the cab, especially when backing up to spot the trailer into a narrow lane. That's when you need a 5th wheel that sits on rollers on a rail in the bed, sliding back a foot or so to allow sharper angles between the truck and trailer. When you're on the road, just slide the hitch back forward over the axle for the best towing.336.88

Great product and easy to install. Everything was as advertised. The only problem was that the kit does not include 4 1/2 x 1.75-inch bolts, nuts, and washers to mount the side plates to the frame. I had to buy them at the local hardware. Was this review helpful for you? The landing gear was complete as advertised and works well. It was not an exact fit and took a little torch work and welding. It would have helped if the actual dimensions and lift point dimensions had been listed with the ad. All said, it works better than the original equipment and is a welcome upgrade to our trailer. Was this review helpful for you? This coupler lock works great for the bulldog hitch I have on my utility trailer. It is extremely heavy duty, a snap to install and remove, and has a weatherproof finish. This is the best I've found for a bulldog style coupler. Was this review helpful for you? Works very well as a replacement for the one I lost for my 30 foot Travel Trailed. Nice finish which I suspect inhibits rust but I painted my as I suspect it will not take much use before it would have started rusting. Was this review helpful for you? Nicely made product. Installed easily and operates very smooth. Just be sure to know how long you need the jack to be. This is a little too long for my application but that is my fault not theirs. Excellent product. Was this review helpful for you? YesNo
