Not every truck has a bolt-on trailer hitch option. You may need to fabricate a hitch to meet your needs, and it's a lot easier to start with one of these universal kits than to start from scratch. With a prefabricated and painted receiver, and mix-and-match end plates, you may simply need to drill a few holes. Other kits are prefabricated, but require some simple welding between the end plates and the cross bar. That makes fitting a hitch receiver a job that has the truck back in service in an hour or less, instead of sitting in the shop for the better part of a day while a complete hitch is fabricated.
