A timing belt is designed to synchronize the movement of the engine’s valves and pistons. On many engines, it also drives the oil pump, and water pump. Installed behind the protective cover, this belt is invisible, and that explains how the timing belt has become known as the forgotten belt. When the timing belt breaks the synchronization of the engine parts is lost. When this happens, on most engines the valves interfere with the pistons. As a result, the valves can be broken with possibly even more severe and expensive damage to pistons, cylinders, etc. To avoid this, you should check and follow the manufacturer's recommended intervals for timing belt replacement.
It's also recommended that timing belt tensioners and idler pulleys be replaced along with the belt. Designed to ensure constant tensioning, guiding, and accurate valve timing, these components have been in use as long as the belt under the same, often extreme, conditions. They are not that expensive. In fact their cost is negligible compared to the labor cost of removing everything necessary to gain access to the timing belt. If the hardware is not replaced with the belt, the life of the newly replaced timing belt can be reduced by as much as 50%.
Specially designed to replace worn or damaged OE timing belts, this kit by Dayco includes belt(s), tensioners, and idler pulleys for proper timing belt replacement, so you don't have to battle the traffic and stand in lines trying to find the particular tensioner or idler pulleys. All the components included meet or exceed OE quality, form, fit, and function requirements while providing peak long-lasting service life.186.87 207.11
