If you hear nothing or just a click when you turn the ignition key, you may have a starter problem. Of course, the battery may be low or dead, wiring connections may be corroded, and it may be a defect with a peripheral component like a relay or solenoid; only further testing will confirm the problem. For example, if the solenoid is OK and the correct amount of voltage is available at the starter, the current draw should be measured and compared with manufacturer's specifications. Excessive current draw indicates that the starter motor is faulty; however make sure the engine turns freely before condemning the starter.
