A timing belt is designed to enable the crankshaft to drive the camshaft and synchronize the movement of the engine’s valves and pistons. On many engines, it also drives the oil pump, water pump and balance shafts. It's a flat rubber belt with teeth which maintain precise timing between internal engine components to ensure smooth and efficient operation. Because of high rotational speeds, vibrations and extreme temperatures, timing belts and matching components are constantly subjected to a great deal of stress. For instance, overheating and worn-out sealing rings of ball bearings result in increased metal wear and even the jamming of pulleys, and that can easily cause belt damage.
This is why it's strongly recommended that the timing belt's matching components are replaced along with the belt. Vehicle manufacturers have established timing belt replacement intervals which should not be exceeded, as belt failure could cause valve-to-piston contact and serious engine damage. However, all the related components like tensioners, idlers, and the water pump have the same amount of wear and should also be replaced. This ensures you won’t have a costly repeat repair because a defective supporting component caused premature belt failure. Replacing these components takes little more time and expense and will ensure the belt lasts for its intended lifespan.
This ProSeries Timing Belt Kit comes complete with all the components needed to do a timing belt repair efficiently. Designed by the original manufacturer, all components, from the belt to the tensioner and/or idler, are OE quality and correct in form, fit, and function. To provide reliable and long-lasting service life, the belt is manufactured using the latest in material technology, including a polyamide fabric, polychloroprene cover, and glass fiber tension members. It also features integrally molded polychloroprene rubber teeth to maintain precise timing between internal engine components ensuring smooth and efficient operation. The matching components of the belt ensure its correct tensioning, guiding and power transmitting. The kit comes with a lifetime guarantee based on the vehicle manufacturers' recommended change interval for the belt.
