Late model muscle cars look great and perform much better than their ancestors in almost every way. They’re faster, handle better and easier to live with for every day driving. However, there’s one area where the old muscle cars win hands down and that’s sound. If there’s one rap that can be made against modern muscle cars it’s that too many of them don’t sound like muscle cars. If you want your muscle machine to sound as good as it goes and looks, then get a Gibson American Muscle Car Cat-Back Exhaust.
The heart of the American Muscle Car system is the Gibson Superflow Muffler with Convergent Flow Technology (CFT). Gibson knows that increasing exhaust flow is critical for improving power, and that restriction is the biggest obstacle to increasing that flow. Gibson Superflow mufflers have some of the lowest restriction ratings of any muffler on the market.
But Gibson takes the next step with their Convergent Flow Technology (CFT) and actually tunes the exhaust as it flows through the muffler. With CFT the muffler isn’t just an impediment to flow that must be overcome, it becomes a tool to increase power and improve sound. CFT mufflers feature a unique, internal angular design that creates a venturi effect. Exhaust gases converge to equalize and synchronize exhaust pulses while chambers create pressure to draw exhaust gases into the muffler and expel them at a higher velocity. Directional louvered tuning ports guide exhaust gases into resonance chambers to create a deep, throaty exhaust tone. And the increased flow and great sound is achieved without using any muffler packing, so there’s no packing to blow out. Your exhaust flow and sound will remain consistent throughout the life of the muffler.
To further reduce restriction and improve exhaust flow, Gibson uses mandrel bent tubing. First Gibson selects the optimal tubing diameter for the best engine efficiency, then they use CNC mandrel tube benders to make every tubing bend. Mandrel bending ensures smooth bends and makes sure the pipe maintains its size and shape throughout the entire length. Tubes that aren’t mandrel bent can lose a percentage of their diameter in sharp bends, creating restriction. CNC mandrel bending provides consistent bending so every system flows as designed.
Finally, all Gibson exhaust system components are joined with a “slip fit”, where an exhaust system component fits into the larger opening of the next downstream component. This method reduces the turbulence that is common with ‘ball-and-socket” or “flange-and-gasket” joints, which can cause power-robbing backpressure.
The American Muscle Car Cat-Back Exhaust System is available in your choice of stainless steel or aluminized steel. Each comes with highly polished, intercooled T304 stainless steel clampless exhaust tips. The system comes with everything required for installation, including zinc plated factory style hangers and clamps, and detailed instructions. Aluminized systems are warranted against defects in materials and workmanship, but not rust through, for as long as the original purchaser owns the vehicle on which the system is installed. Stainless steel systems are warranted against defects in materials and workmanship, including rust through, for as long as the original purchaser owns the vehicle on which the system is installed.

Top notch exhaust system. I love the deep tone it has. This exhaust system is pretty loud and makes the driving of my 2002 Toyota Tundra a much more enjoyable experience. Installation only took one hour at the car shop, very simple to install. Designed to fit listed Toyota Tundra models. Right off I did notice increased torque/horsepower as well. Definitely worth the money! Was this review helpful for you? The Gibson Super Truck exhaust is a wonderful add-on to my 1994 F-350. The appearance, sound, and performance are all superb. The price would have been a five star, except for the custom work need to install. Initially, everything looked like it would go together well, but there were two issues. First was the cat output was the same diameter as the stainless steel exhaust pipe between cat and muffler. Could either expand the pipe or use a coupler. Choosing a cleaner install, I took the pipe to the shop to have the diameter enlarged. Unfortunately, stainless steel does not like this and a split began. The shop asked for me to bring in the truck to see what they could do. When they looked at it, they pointed out the second issue. The center line of the muffler and the center line of the cat are not aligned. The stock Ford muffler is oval and its input is about six inches lower than the Gibson round muffler. At this point, I asked them to complete the work. They bent and trimmed the pipe from cat to muffler, welded the pipe in place, added proper mounting brackets, and aligned the exhaust to its proper location. Over all, I am still very pleased with the product, just a bit frustrated that it was not an easy installation. Gibson should review their product compatibility. Was this review helpful for you? I ordered a Gibson exhaust system for my 2009 QX56. The order came surprisingly fast (Cali-Canada). And I got an amazing system for my truck...sounds aggressive when accelerating hard and no droning... quite cabin ride until you stomp on her. Sick, sick, sick. Will definitely order other products on CARiD.com!Was this review helpful for you? I purchased this system to enhance the look of my 04 Dodge Dakota (age 64), I didn't dare try to install myself. I was very satisfied after the installation by Meineke mufflers, so I do not know how easy it was to install, although the installer said it was a piece of cake to install. The installation cost was around a hundred bucks. It was worth it to me. It looks great! The throaty sound is very nice, but on a long trip it may wear on me and my age. For a younger man, it would be great. I feel the cost of the system is a little pricy, but with the warranty, I guess it's worth it.Was this review helpful for you? The hard part was getting the old exhaust off (2hr), and putting the new one on was simpler (1/2 hour.) The bolt hardware option made the whole process easier. Was this review helpful for you? YesNo
