There are many cool air intake kits on the market, but how many deliver what they promise? All claim to position the air filter where it will draw in cool air. Some include barriers that are supposed to shield the air filter from engine heat. Only Volant features a sealed Cool Airbox that thoroughly insulates and protects the air filter from engine heat, moisture, dust and debris.
The engineers at Volant designed the Cool Airbox to house a large free-flowing Pro 5 air filter. The Pro 5 air filter, constructed of high grade cotton filter media with 5 layers of protection, is washable and reusable. It reduces air restriction and increases engine output by using precision pleat geometry that optimizes airflow throughout the intake system. The airbox air intake is located so the air filter can only draw in cooler, ambient air. Access to the air filter for servicing is provided by an attractive polished aluminum or carbon fiber look lid.
From the airbox, cool air proceeds to your engine through Volant's Cross-Link polyethylene air duct. Unlike OEM air ducts that have sound baffles and make awkward bends, the Volant air duct is sculptured to give the engine less restrictive breathing, incorporating larger diameters and unique bends that can't be duplicated with metal ducts. (Also, unlike metal ducts, the polyethylene Volant air duct doesn't conduct engine heat right into the intake airflow, thereby defeating the purpose of a cool air intake!) The end result is maximum airflow velocity and quicker throttle response.
Every Volant Cool Air Intake Kit comes complete with everything necessary for installation, including comprehensive installation instructions. All clamps and connectors are made from quality materials. The Silicone connectors provide flexibility while maintaining strength and thermal stability; they won't crack or deform over time like rubber connectors. The marine-grade stainless steel clamps provide a solid seal that won't loosen or deteriorate.

Volant's website states that these scoops come equipped with baffles or drain holes for water. The scoop I received had neither. I just drilled two small holes in the lowest point of the assembly to allow water to drain. Nice addition if you're looking for a little extra horsepower at top end."

The installation went pretty well, but Volant could do a better job in their instructions; nevertheless, if you know your way around a car engine, you should have no trouble putting in the Volant system. Word of advice -- you will need to remove the windshield fluid reservoir to get access to the stock air box (which is not hard to do and you don't need to remove the supply hoses; simply remove the two set screws for the reservoir and the two electrical connection and voila! off it comes.) The Volant's construction is EXCELLENT...everything fits together very nicely and is far better constructed than the stock air box. The sound is simply amazing and the acceleration is tremendous. You won't be disappointed! Another word of advice - if you're thinking of adding the optional RAM air scoop, then install it at the same time as the main CAI. If you install it later, you will have to disassemble the air box to get access to the lower intake port."

I can really notice a big difference in performance with the additional hp. Installation was not simple but was doable. I did need to slightly reem out one of the holes for all to come together and the hose to gasket to box bolts would have been much easier to put together if they were 1/8 inch longer. The instructions are pretty cryptic."
