There are many cool air intake kits on the market, but how many deliver what they promise? All claim to position the air filter where it will draw in cool air. Some include barriers that are supposed to shield the air filter from engine heat. Only Volant features a sealed Cool Airbox that thoroughly insulates and protects the air filter from engine heat, moisture, dust and debris.
The engineers at Volant designed the Cool Airbox to house a large free-flowing Pro 5 air filter. The Pro 5 air filter, constructed of high grade cotton filter media with 5 layers of protection, is washable and reusable. It reduces air restriction and increases engine output by using precision pleat geometry that optimizes airflow throughout the intake system. The airbox air intake is located so the air filter can only draw in cooler, ambient air. Access to the air filter for servicing is provided by an attractive polished aluminum or carbon fiber look lid.
From the airbox, cool air proceeds to your engine through Volant's Cross-Link polyethylene air duct. Unlike OEM air ducts that have sound baffles and make awkward bends, the Volant air duct is sculptured to give the engine less restrictive breathing, incorporating larger diameters and unique bends that can't be duplicated with metal ducts. (Also, unlike metal ducts, the polyethylene Volant air duct doesn't conduct engine heat right into the intake airflow, thereby defeating the purpose of a cool air intake!) The end result is maximum airflow velocity and quicker throttle response.
Every Volant Cool Air Intake Kit comes complete with everything necessary for installation, including comprehensive installation instructions. All clamps and connectors are made from quality materials. The Silicone connectors provide flexibility while maintaining strength and thermal stability; they won't crack or deform over time like rubber connectors. The marine-grade stainless steel clamps provide a solid seal that won't loosen or deteriorate.

The install went well and the directions were easy to understand. Everything lined and fit with only a little bit of fiddling. I was pleasantly surprised that the intake noise was really no louder than stock in normal driving and freeway cruising..... yes, it has a mean sound when you tromp on the throttle but it does not annoy you in normal everyday driving or on long trips. Performance is amazing over the stock air box... you see these claims all the time 20% more this... 30% more that... whatever. But this system does produce improved performance and fuel economy. Can't give any performance improvement numbers but it is certainly a noticeable improvement pulling my enclosed motorcycle trailer and just getting on the throttle hard around town. What I was really not expecting was the fuel economy improvement. Figuring the small amount of throttle opening that is being used for freeway cruising would not be high enough flow to ever see any benefits with the Volant's larger smoother tubing and filter but my fuel economy increased over 12%! I was actually shocked to see this result and I have double checked the figures on the same trip 3 times now. Amazing. If you buy one be sure to spend some time cleaning (very carefully) your MAF before installing it in the Volant system. "
