Graph-Flex is Taylor’s nomenclature for a graphite-based gasket sealing composition bonded to a highly malleable stainless steel core. The relatively soft, flexible core is capable of shaping itself to an irregular flange surface, while the graphite will flow into small imperfections and provide the final seal. The graphite and stainless steel core are both rated to survive the most extreme temperatures seen in an exhaust system, so it won’t blow out a few hundred miles or a few dozen passes after being installed. The slippery graphite surface seals well without any gasket sealer, meaning that there’s no residue to scrape off when the parts are removed. This makes this gasket a natural for race cars or modified cars that are worked on regularly.
