Since the Kia Forte received a major redesign with the release of the third generation for the 2019 model year, the 2020 Kia Forte lineup underwent only cosmetic changes. The car is offered in two body styles: a four-door sedan and five-door liftback. A hatchback-bodied Kia Forte5 is available for the Canadian market. The 2020 Kia Forte GT is the only version of this model that is powered by a turbocharged 1.6-liter I4 engine capable of producing 201 hp. It can be paired either with a 6-speed manual gearbox or automatic transmission with shifter paddles on the steering wheel. Also, the GT version comes with a high-performance dual exhaust system and independent suspension on both axles. The GT Line, just like the other trim levels, can be equipped with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder powerplant rated at 147 hp and mated to a 6-speed manual or continuously variable transmission. The smart CVT developed by Kia offers smooth acceleration and ultra quiet operation.

The exterior upgrades of the GT and GT Line models include such unique styling cues as a redesigned grille with a glossy black finish and black and red accents. Gloss black mirror caps include LED turn signals. A black spoiler on the trunk lid and sports sills on the sides complete the look. Inside, you can find black upholstery with contrast white or red stitching on bucket seats featuring advanced side bolsters, light-alloy sport pedals, and racing-style steering wheel wrapped in fine leather. Also, the features standard for the GT version include a Smart Key technology and LED ambient lighting. Among options, an 8-speaker premium stereo system by Harman Kardon, wireless cellphone charging, heated and ventilated power-adjustable seats, and advanced climate control are available.
