For 2019, the Mazda Miata MX-5 received its first significant mechanical upgrade after the 2015 model year redesign. Its engine got a range of improvements, including lighter pistons and conrods, upgraded valve springs, and a larger throttle body, which gave it an increase in horsepower to 181 hp and higher RPMs that now top out at 7,500. This way, the 2019 Mazda Miata MX-5 is the most potent factory Miata ever. The refreshed car also features a new exhaust muffler that provides a meaner note and dual mass flywheel. As for other updates, the 2019 Miata MX-5 comes with the first for the model telescoping steering and new interior and exterior options. The new 2019 Miata MX-5 RF (Retractable Fastback) comes with an aluminum steering column, rear view camera, redesigned cupholders, and other safety and comfort features.
This year, Mazda celebrates three decades since this cute little roadster rolled off the factory floor. The MX-5 Miata 30th Anniversary limited-edition model was introduced to commemorate this milestone and give customers an exclusive option. The first thing that strikes the eye setting this special car apart from all others is the color. The all-new Racing Orange shade was developed specifically for this model. It sports 17” 10-spoke aluminum rims by Rays which were also made exclusively for the special-edition version, based on the wheels installed on the MX-5 Cup race car. Splashes of orange accentuate the brake calipers and Alcantara-upholstered seats.
All versions of the 2019 Mazda Miata MX-5 and MX-5 RF come with the same 2.0 L I4 engine under the hood producing up to 181 horsepower. A 6-speed manual is standard, while a 6-speed automatic is available as an option. Only RWD layout is available. The car offers good acceleration, reaching 60 mph in less than 6 seconds. As with most Mazda vehicles, its drivability is great, especially on twisty roads. The Miata MX-5 offers two body style variants – a soft top and retractable hardtop. The latter features the top that mimics the coupe roofline look and folds into the area behind the seats. The roof of the eye-catching Mazda Miata MX-5 RF retracts in just about 13 seconds. As a sports car with just two seats, the Miata MX-5 doesn’t offer much practicality, though its trunk can carry 4.6 cu. ft. of cargo in case of need.
You can choose one of two trim levels of the 2019 Mazda Miata MX-5 RF – the Grand Touring that gives comfort the top priority, or the Club version that focuses mostly on driving experience. The MX-5 RF Grand Touring equipped with a manual transmission is available with the GT-S package that includes a black-painted roof, Bilstein shock absorbers, limited-slip differential, and more. The Club trim level is offered with optional Brembo calipers and rotors, BBS forged alloy wheels, heated Recaro bucket seats, side skirts, and rear bumper extension.
The 2019 Miata MX-5 is offered in three trim grades. The base variant comes with ample equipment that includes a retractable soft top, LED headlights and tail lights, 16” alloy wheels, A/C, push-button ignition, keyless entry, leather shift knob and steering wheel, easy-to-use infotainment system with 7” touchscreen, Bluetooth, cruise control, 2 USB ports, and 6-speaker audio system. A 9-speaker audio by Bose is available as an option.
