The Forester compact crossover is one of the most popular vehicles by Subaru. To mark its fifth model year in the current fourth gen, the 2018 Subaru Forester 'goes black' - available exclusively on the 2.5i Premium trim grade, there's a special Black Edition Package. It adds black-painted trim to the exterior and interior, which in combination with four available exterior colors makes a bold styling statement. Externally, it offers black 18-inch alloy wheels, fog light surrounds, grille elements, badges, and mirrors. The blacked-out motif continues in the interior, outfitted with black cloth / leatherette seats and leather-wrapped steering wheel, complemented by a dash panel finished in gloss black and silver metallic. Also new for the 2018 model year are Active Torque Vectoring (for the 2.0XT) and EyeSight Driver Assist (for the 2.0XT and 2.5i Touring). The former improves cornering ability by slightly braking the inside front wheel and sending more torque to the outside front wheel in turns, while the latter adds standard Reverse Auto Braking and High Beam Assist as well as optional safety tech. Powertrain choices are a carryover for 2018. The base 2.5i takes power from a 2.5-liter four-banger backed by a 6-speed manual. A CVT is available for this 170-hp Boxer. 2.0XT models in Premium and Touring forms come with a 2.0-liter turbo-four that makes 250 hp and is teamed exclusively with a CVT. As always, all-wheel drive is a standard layout for the Subaru Forester.

Premium, Limited, and Touring grades offer a long list of optional extras. Premium adds a panoramic sunroof, power-assisted driver's seat, and automatic climate control to the base package and rolls on larger wheels. CVT-equipped models also get hill-descent control. In the Limited trim, the list of 2018 Subaru Forester accessories and parts expands to include a steering wheel wrapped in leather, dash panel with silver accents, and leather-trimmed seats. Technology-wise, this grade receives a power liftgate and blind spot monitoring.
