We say sensibly because these moldings not only provided bright detail and visual interest that enhanced the overall style of the vehicle, they also protected the edge of the fenders from minor dings caused by doors, shopping carts, and road debris. After all, moldings are easy to replace and less expensive than a trip to the body shop.

But over the years bright trim of all types, including fender moldings, began to disappear, the victim of changing styling trends.
